World Day against Child Labour observed by Lakhimpur District Social Welfare Department

LAKHIMPUR: The World Day Against Child Labour was observed in Lakhimpur on Wednesday under the auspices of Child Protection Unit under Lakhimpur District Social Welfare Department (DSWD) and the District Legal Service Authority.

On this occasion, an awareness rally was taken out in North Lakhimpur town. It was followed by an awareness meeting organized in the DSWD office wherein ADC Sarangapani Sharmah was present as the chief guest. In his lecture, the ADC emphasized the demerits of child labour and the issue as a legal offence. Further, he prioritized the assurance of the right to education of the children for the sake of their future security.

In addition to him, Lakhimpur District Legal Service Authority secretary Bichitra Dutta, Telahi Block CDPO Prashanta Borah, Jagriti Sanmilita Unnayan Kendra vice-president Abu Syed Khan took part in the programme which was anchored by Child Protection Officer Plabita Das. Child Protection Officer Smriti Rekha Dutta Borah offered the vote of thanks.

DEMOW: Under the initiative of the Social Welfare Department and the patronage of the District Child Protection Office, the World Day against Child Labour was observed by holding an awareness meeting at the Rajmai Tea Estate on Wednesday. The meeting was held in association with the district administration and Sonapur Social Development Society, an NGO.

The welcome speech was delivered by Junumoni Sonowal, District Development Commissioner. On the occasion, Deepjyoti Deori, District Child Protection Officer, Dipali Bhattacharjee Barua, member of Child Welfare Committee, Hiteswar Roy, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Sanjay Prasad Sah, president of Sonapur Social Development Society and various other dignitaries gave speeches.

In the programme, Sandhani Gogoi, District Project Coordinator of DCAC, members of Gaon Panchayat, workers of local tea gardens, members of Sonapur Social Development Society, employees of the Labour Department, employees of the District Child Protection Office, Anganwadi workers, Asha workers, teachers and students were also present.
