DIBRUGARH: Along with the other parts of the country, the World Day against Child Labour was observed on Friday to raise awareness for the prevention of child labour.

An oath-taking function was held at the DC's conference room with District Development Commissioner Sanjay Dutta in the chair. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajib Thapa administered the oath for united efforts to contain child labour and to ensure child's right for education among the members and officials of the District Task Force, officials of the Labour Department, Childline and others.

The District Task Force had conducted raids in several places, including business establishments and shops, for rescuing child labourers, if any. The task force had also taken an active part in generating awareness about the ill-effects of child labour in society and to free society from child labour. To mark the occasion, the district administration, in association with UNICEF and Team Sizer, organized a wall painting programme at Chowkidinghi playground in order to create awareness among people against child labour. Additional Deputy Commissioner Nandita Barua graced the function as chief guest. Later, the organizers visited the hotels, business establishments and other shops in the town and collected written pledge from them that they would not engage any child as labour in their respective establishments.
