World Environment Day celebrated at Assam Agricultural University Jorhat

JORHAT: World Environment Day with the theme ‘Air Pollution’ was observed by the National Service Scheme, Students Society, AAU Jorhat and All India Agricultural Students Association, Assam Science Society, AAU Jorhat Branch and AAU Students’ Union.

The programme was inaugurated by planting the first sapling of Neem by Arpan Saikia, the Registrar, and Dr. Jayanta Deka, Dr. Ruplekha Bora, Dean Faculty of Agriculture and Community Science respectively, within the premises of Assam Agricultural University Jorhat campus on Tuesday.

Dr. Jayanta Deka, Dean of Faculty of Agriculture, during his inaugural lecture called upon the AAU fraternity, teachers, students and employees to reach the target of planting 1 lakh saplings of Neem and other medicinal plants in all possible areas within the campus of both hostels and departments. The Dean also spoke about the importance of observing the day and said that climatic change could be controlled only after planting and growing trees.
