TINSUKIA: The 50th anniversary of World Environment Day (WED) was observed at Tinsukia College with a day-long programme along with signing of an MoU between Tinsukia College and EdEn, a leading environmental education NGO in presence of teachers, eco-club & NSS members’ and students.

In his hour-long deliberation on the WED theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, Dr Rishi Das, president EdEn and also former vice principal discussed at length with the slide show the ill effects of plastic pollution, the Ivory Coast summit, Net Zero target of carbon emission, reduction of carbon foot prints, 4Rs- reduce, recycle, reuse & refuse and life cycle of plastics. He stressed on reuse of plastic bottles in home gardens. While expressing serious concern on the burning of plastic that releases carcinogenic gasses like Dioxin, Dr Das opined that use of non-degradable materials like Styrofoam and thermocol should be completely banned and be discouraged which are randomly used by students in model preparation, decoration etc. The programme was followed by signing of an MoU encompassing joint initiatives to support on environmental sectors.
