LAKHIMPUR: Along with the globe, World Mental Health Day was celebrated in Lakhimpur district on Sunday in order to raise awareness around mental health issues and mobilise efforts in support of mental health. This year the theme for Mental Health Day is 'Mental Health in an Unequal World.'

It highlights the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on people's mental health, especially health and other frontline workers, students, people living alone, and those with pre-existing mental health conditions.

On this occasion, a public meeting was organized at Rangati, one of the remote areas of Lakhimpur understand the auspices of District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) in association with District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Lakhimpur. More than 100 differently-abled patients alongwith their guardians participated in the meeting. G Handique presided over the meeting wherein Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Iqbal Alam Fanaji highlighted the legal aspects of the mentally challenged people.

Dr Shamiul Akhtar Borbora, the District Nodal Officer of DMHP, participated in the programme as resource person. He explained the meaning and significance of this year's theme of the event. Social worker Dhanti Das, the awardee of Mother Teresa Award, 2021, also spoke on the occasion.
