BONGAIGAON: World No Tobacco Day was observed in Bongaigaon district on Sunday. The programme was organized at the District TB Cell office in the premises of the office of District Joint Director of Health Services.
The district nodal officer of the National Tobacco Control Programme, Dr Haridas Sarkar explained the objective of the World No Tobacco Day. Joint Director of Health Services Dr Nilmadhab Das spoke about the ill-effects of consuming tobacco. The programme was attended by District Media Expert and District Coordinator of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram on NHM's behalf.
On the occasion, extensive campaign against tobacco consumption through miking is going on in the district level by District Health Society and National Tobacco Control Programme. Besides, leaflets on ill effects of tobacco and tobacco products are also being distributed at public places.
Since 1988, WHO has been observing May 31 as the World No Tobacco Day. This year, the theme of the 'World No Tobacco Day' is 'Protecting youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from tobacco and nicotine use'.
