DHUBRI: World Red Cross Day was observed by Dhubri District Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). As part of the programme, a health check-up camp was organized and tarpaulins were distributed at the Dhubri District IRCS office premises here on Monday.

Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross Society was born on May 8, 1828 and his birth day has been observed as the World Red Cross Day across the globe.

In his inaugural speech, Dhubri ADC, Nitya Binod Warie as the chief guest of the programme spoke at a length on the World Red Cross Day and said that its thousands of international units and branches across the world has been rendering humanitarian services to the people in dire need of support to survive and sustain the life.

Chairman of Dhubri Red Cross Society Dr. Debamoy Sanyal also in his brief speech highlighted various aspects of Red Cross Society since its inception and narrated facts and history behind formation of the organisation and opined that it is a noble organisation rendering commendable services during the wars, disaster, natural calamities to rescue people trapped and crying for help. Vice chairman Uday Chakraborty, secretary Bijoy Kumar Sharma, former secretary Rajib Sarma and many other dignitaries were present.
