TINSUKIA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tinsukia celebrated World Soil Day 2022 at Bhitorpowai Gaon Panchyat under Margherita Sub-Division on Monday in association with farmers of the area. The gathering was welcomed by Dr.Kripal Borah, SMS (Soil Science), KVK, Tinsukia. Gayatri D. Bhuyan, i/c Head and Senior Scientist, KVK-Tinsukia said that the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) in 2002, made a resolution proposing December 5 as 'World Soil Day' to celebrate the importance of soil as a critical component of the natural system and as a vital contributor to human wellbeing.

She also explained about the integrated nutrient management of soil for various crops emphasizing on soil health and soil testing. President of Bhitorpowai Gaon Panchayat Suman Khaleng urged the people for scientific cultivation of various crops. Gaon Pradhan of Makumkilla Village Khargeswar Khaleng shared his experience about the cultivation in the area and soil related various problems encountered in his activities. Former school teacher and social activist Pradip Limbo also addressed the farmers present in the meeting and urged the people for good soil health practices for benefit of the future generation. A total of 45 farmers of the area attended the programme.
