World Suicide Prevention Day observed in Tezpur

TEZPUR: World Suicide Prevention Day was observed in Tezpur by District Mental Health Programme, Sonitpur at the School of Nursing, Kanaklata Civil Hospital here on Friday with the theme, 'Creating Hope Through Action'. The Suicide Prevention Day was organized to raise awareness that suicide can be prevented.

Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Bhupesh Chandra Das flagged off the rally at Kanaklata Civil Hospital. The DC himself also took part in the rally along with ADC, Bonti Talukdar, Superintendent of KCH, Dr T B Chetry, DPO of District Mental Health Programme, Sonitpur, Dr Pradip Kumar Sarma and students of nursing to support the cause, from Tezpur School of Nursing through Tezpur town. Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das said that depressed patients withdraw themselves from the society but it was the responsibility of the family and friends to give them support, to keep them engaged and regularly interact with them. DPO Dr Sarmah also said family and friends could play a crucial role for someone with suicidal tendencies just by being by their side and assuring help and support.
