LAKHIMPUR: Pijush Hazarika, the Minister for Water Resources, Information and Public Relations and Parliamentary Affairs, who came to visit Upper and North Assam with a five-day long programme, visited Lakhimpur on Saturday.

In the district, Hazarika inspected the erosion caused by River Subansiri, the largest tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra, by ferryboat from Chaoldhowa RCC bridge under Kadam Revenue Circle to Na-Ali Balighat under North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle. During the inspection of the 50-km long area, the minister was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, officers of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project and officers of the Water Resources Department (WRD).

The minister expressed resentment over the low quality work implemented to control the massive erosion caused by the river at Bhimpora-Hekerajan under Kadam Revenue Circle. In this regard, he instructed the WRD officers to implement quality work to control the erosion caused by the river.

While interacting with the media persons, the minister stated, "Flood and erosion are burning problems of Assam. We must address the problems with a mission and vision. This visit has provided me lot of experience. Discussing with the Chief Minister, we will chalk out our future strategy to mitigate the problem. We hope that we will be potent enough to make Assam flood and erosion-free."

He further instructed the district administration to adopt every measure to protect the public from imminent flood in the upcoming rainy season.
