Writer and journalist Dwipendra Narayan Konwar passes away

Konwar was known for his organizing skills since the days of the Assam Movement as he played an active role in the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP).

MANGALDAI: Dwipendra Narayan Konwar, secretary of Axam Xahitya Xabha's Mangaldai regional office and former president of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha, an author, and a journalist of repute, former adviser of AJYCP and a resident of Block Chowka (Bangla Garh) near Mangaldai town, breathed his last in GMCH on Friday after a brief illness. He was 57.

He was known for his organizing skills since the days of the Assam Movement as he played an active role in the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP). His untimely death has been widely mourned here. Representatives of many social organizations, including Axam Xahitya Xabha, Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha, AJYCP, AASU, Mangaldai Media Circle, Mangaldai Press Club and Mangaldai Chambers of Commerce paid tribute to Konwar in the premises of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha.

Several prominent persons of the State, including former president of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Dr Paramanada Rajbongshi, secretary general of Axam Xahitya Xabha, Jadav Chandra Sharma, former cabinet minister Basanta Das, former parliamentarian Madhab Rajbongshi, and former president of AJYCP, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya also paid floral tribute to the departed soul.

Konwar had written and edited more than 20 books, including Swayatta Sashan, Koch Kamatar Itikatha and Koch Rajyat Srimanta Sankardev. His book Koch Kamatar Itikotha was released by the then Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit at a function held in Raj Bhavan in 2017. As an actor he took part in 33 full-length dramas, besides a one-act play. He was also the founder president of Mangaldai Media Circle and founder secretary of Mangaldai Unnayan Parishad, a non-government organization. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter, besides a host of relatives and well-wishers.
