SILCHAR: Yaba tablets valued at around Rs. 1 crore were seized and two men held during a joint operation by police and crime branch officials at Deubari, Patharkandi in Karimganj district on Wednesday.
The arrested persons were identified as Sabbir Ahmed (40) and Jalal Uddin (45).
As per reports, a team of cops and crime branch officials, based on specific information, conducted an operation at Deubari and seized around 40,000 Yaba tablets from Sabbir Ahmed's shop. The market value of the seized contraband is about Rs. 1 crore. Sabbir and another person Jalal were arrested.
Karimganj district / Barak Valley has seen a number of seizures of Yaba tablets and arrests of many people in connection with the crimes in the past few months. In July, a suspected drug peddler was arrested with around 600 Yaba tablets at Chandrapur under Kaliganj police outpost in Karimganj district.
A suspected drug peddler was arrested and around 30,000 Yaba tablets were seized during a joint operation by Kaliganj (Karimganj district) and Cachar police in June. The peddler was held from Sonai, Cachar.
Yaba tablets are valued at around Rs. 3 crore were seized by BSF officials from a hardware shop at Kayasthagram, Karimganj in May. Three persons were apprehended regarding the incident.
Two suspected drug peddlers were arrested with heroin and Yaba tablets at Kadamtilla under Jirighat police station in Cachar district in May.
Four suspected drug peddlers, including a woman, were arrested with Yaba tablets valued at around Rs. 50 lakh at Churaibari under Bazaricherra police station in Karimganj district in March.
Yaba tablets are tablets containing a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine. The illicit use of this drug combination has been widespread, particularly in South and Southeast Asian countries.
