Yet another incident of attack on  journalists reported from Mancachar, Assam

Mancachar: The state has witnessed another attack on journalists. This time the incident has been reported from the Mancachar area of Assam.

The incident took place on Saturday around 11 am in Kothalbari, Mancachar, while a group of journalists was gathering news about the construction of a road stretch when the contractor appeared on the scene and started behaving like a goonda. He tried to attack and hit the journalists and misbehaved with them.

The accused has been identified as Muhammad Haasn (the contractor).

He accused the journalists of demanding money.

However, when the journalists asked for proof, he fled from the spot.

A journalist said," A group of our journalists from Hatsingimari visited Kothalbari to collect news after learning about bad road construction. We were attacked by the contractor while reporting news. The language he used and the manner in which he behaved with us, I cannot even say on camera".

The locals of the place have levelled charges of corruption against the contractor and said that he had used sub-standard material in building the road stretch.

He is also known to be involved in other corrupt practices. Hasan is said to be close to Congress MLA Dr. Motiur Rehman.

The team of journalists demanded the District Administration as well as Deputy Commissioner to take legal action against the contractor.
