TANGLA: While people above 45 years of age group are eligible for getting COVID-19 vaccine, quite a few citizens in the age bracket of 24-35 years, who are not under any of the instructed categories, have been able to get themselves inoculated through 'personal connections'mat a number of vaccination centres across Udalguri district, including at the 200-bedded Udalguri Civil Hospital.
A 24-year old youth requesting anonymity said, "I got my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Udalguri Civil Hospital on Monday through a close friend working in the vaccination centre." In another instance, a 34-year-old resident of Paneri of Udalguri district also shared his vaccination certificate on social media after getting the first dose at Udalguri Civil Hospital on Tuesday.
Rebutting such claims, a senior health official of Udalguri who is looking after the vaccination drive, said, "At present, all those aged above 60 years and those between 45-59 years with co-morbidities are eligible to get vaccine, and we have not entitled young citizens as of now. However, they will be eligible after registration from May 1."
