LAKHIMPUR: Youth Congress conducted the Youth Jodo rally in Lakhimpur on Thursday. Notably, the brother organization of Congress has been organizing the rally across the State in order to muster support of the youths in favour of the political party.

The rally started from the Shiva Mandir premises and concluded at Rajiv Bhawan covering the North Lakhimpur town. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) working president Rana Goswami, Assam State Youth Congress president Zuber Anam, vice-president David Phukan, secretary Sagarika Borah, Pratyush Dutta, APCC spokesperson Bornali Phukan, secretary Jintu Hazarika, Lakhimpur District Congress Committee president Gagan Borah, Lakhimpur District Youth Congress president Mouchum Lahon and many other Congress leaders took part in the rally.

While addressing the rally, Rana Goswami criticized the BJP government of Assam with strong terms in connection with various issues. “BJP has lost public support gradually. Now the BJP-led government is afraid of the opposition following the constitution of the Opposition Forum with 13 political parties. As a result of it, the government tried to make the Youth Congress rally unsuccessful today by misusing power,” Rana Goswami said. He alleged that Police and Transport Departments stopped the buses and other vehicles carrying the Congress members to the rally from different parts of the district in midway in the name of conducting check. “We have no objections with regard to conducting of the check. But on this day, Police and Transport Departments jumped on the streets to conduct check of the vehicles in view of making the Youth Congress rally unsuccessful only,” the APCC working president added. He further said that the youths of the State had already withdrawn their support from BJP because the political party could not fulfil their hopes and aspirations. “Youths of the State are betrayed by the government in the name of appointment. The BJP-led government could not create even a new post for appointment. The government has been blowing its own trumpet by making some appointments in posts lying vacant only,” Rana Goswami asserted.
