Guwahati: Giving rise to immense speculation, Assam's singing sensation Zubeen Garg on Thursday announced the formation of a "new team" through a cryptic Facebook post.

Zubeen, taking to social media, wrote a cryptic message that has sent social media into a tizzy. "Announcing....All the players who r related to any political parties won't be allowed to play in my team. Wl be forming a new team. Zubeen Garg artiste 11 is progressive n uncompromising. Only socialist are allowed to play football wth a cause. Vande Mataram," the 'Mayabini' star wrote in his post.

Although Zubeen did not clarify what sort of football "team" he wishes to form and which league they will play in, his fans have construed this message as an indirect jibe at the Assam artists who have joined political parties BJP and Congress ahead of the ensuing polls in the state. Others have construed Zubeen's mysterious message as a sign that he is distancing himself from politics.

Zubeen's statement that "only socialist are allowed to play football" might be construed as the star once again championing the cause of socialism, of which he has been a staunch advocate.

The post has surfaced at a time when there is mounting speculation over Zubeen's joining of politics after he was appointed as the brand ambassador of Assam's agriculture sector. The 'Rati Rati' singer's recent meeting with Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also set the tongues wagging.

Amid these speculations, the singing sensation alleged that he was threatened and verbally abused by unknown people in Guwahati and filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the matter this afternoon at Dispur police station in Assam.

Garg, who was one of the strongest voices in the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in the state, recently earned a few haters after he was declared as Assam Agriculture Ministry's brand ambassador.
