Journalist Dies in a Road Accident in Silchar

Silchar: In a shocking and tragic accident Malin Sarma, reporter-cum-cameraperson of a channel, died on the spot when a speeding tipper truck ran over him at around 11 pm on Sunday night. He was going to his house on his Scooty after covering an event when the incident took place. He was a resident of Gosaipur’s Shivbari road, Tarapur. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, and well-wishers, friends and colleagues. Following this tragic incident, irked journalists along with local people sat down on the road demanding immediate action. Such deaths have become common nowadays.

Malin Sarma’s death has sent waves of shock to the media fraternity. Social media is full of his news as he was a very popular face cutting across all professions. He lost his life in a hit-and-run case. He was returning home after covering an event at Rotary Bhawan. His brother Malay Sarma, wife Seema Sarma and daughter Meenakshi Sarma also rushed to the spot. Ditumoni Goswami, Sadar Thana officer-in-charge, TSI Samarjit Roy, Santanu Das, traffic in-charge, among others rushed to the spot. None could see anything owing to load-shedding. His body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. Later, his body was kept in front of Gandhi Bagh for people to pay their tributes to him. His body was cremated in the afternoon.
