GUWAHATI: On Thursday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted five days of heavy precipitation over Assam and the Northeast.

The monsoon trough now passes through Bikaner, Kota, Raisen, Mandla, Ambikapur, and Balasore before heading east-southeast to the eastern Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD. Between 1.5 and 7.6 kilometres above mean sea level, a cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and the neighbouring north of Odisha, dipping southwestward with height.

Additionally, increased rainfall activity is expected over central India through July 8 and will gradually rise over northern India starting on July 9 for the next two days. Up till July 9, Kerala and Karnataka are likely to see heavy rain.

The department has issued a "yellow" alert for all of Kerala and a few Karnataka districts. However, due to the fact that an "orange" signal has been issued for Uttar Kannada, Dakshin Kannada, and Udupi, extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in these areas.

The IMD RMC report also noted that nearly seven centimetres of rain fell in Assam during the course of the previous 24 hours.

Dhemaji, Tinsukia, Charaideo, Biswanath, and Sonitpur districts are anticipated to experience problems during the course of the next five days. District authorities have been warned to stay vigilant because these districts are likely to see severe rains.

Although Assam's flooding situation is gradually improving, 315.40 hectares of crops are still under water. Three more districts were hit by the flood in the past day, bringing the total to six.

According to a report released on July 6 by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the districts of Biswanath, Jorhat, and Lakhimpur have recently been impacted. According to the report that the authorities released on Wednesday, the flood had an impact on the Bajali, Kamrup, and Dhemaji districts.
