Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the north-eastern region will experience some rough weather conditions for the next 2 days.
The states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya will be the recipients of isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorm on 29 December and 30 December while Nagaland will face these conditions only on 30 December as per IMD forecast.
IMD has predicted similar weather conditions for Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 29 December.
It is expected that dense fog will blanket these states until 31 December and the IMD has issued a yellow watch over these states on 29 December and 30 December.
Residents have been advised to be aware of the local weather condition and take adequate measures to tackle the cold.
According to reports, these conditions will be caused by the combination of a western disturbance located over Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir, a cyclonic circulation over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, and a trough running from southwest Madhya Pradesh to south Bihar across north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
It is expected that similar weather conditions will prevail over parts of Northwest, Central and East India during the year-end period.
Minimum temperatures of 2-5 degrees Celcius above normal are likely to remain over several parts of the northeast.
The minimum and the maximum temperatures were recorded at about 1.6 to 3 degrees Celcius above normal in some parts of Assam and Meghalaya on December 28.
North India is also experiencing harsh weather conditions. Some parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh were filled with snow with minimum temperatures dropping below normal.
Delhi is also going through a chilling cold wave while Shillong was recently covered in Snow as it was hit by a massive hailstorm a few days ago.
