District level Athletics meet 'Mukhya Montrir Mohila Krira Pratiyogita' held in Tezpur

Tezpur: The district-level Athletics Meet, under Mukhya Montrir Mohila Krira Pratiyogita, 2019-2020 was held in Tezpur today where a total of 125 women participants took part.

Deputy Commissioner Manvendra Pratap Singh formally inaugurated the event at a ceremony held at Polo Field in the presence of District Sports Officer Khanindra Mudoi, Addl SP Olindita Gogoi, DSP Rashmi Rekha Sarmah and other dignitaries. The event is being organized under the aegis of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Government of Assam.

The 125 participants who took part in today’s program were selected through block-level competitions, and they participated in 11 sporting disciplines such as high jump, shot put, discus, javelin throw, 4×100 metre relay, etc., in the event held today.

Today’s winners will represent the district in state-level competitions, which will be held in Guwahati shortly.

During the inaugural function, Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the state government in promoting and popularising sports and said such events will go a long way in promoting sports talent among women players from various rural areas of the district.
