ITANAGAR: Founder of the Arunachal Highlanders and committee member of the Northeast Futsal League (NEFL), Langda Mina on Wednesday informed that the State team will participate in the seven-day futsal tournament which will be held at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium in Guwahati. Speaking to the media persons here at the Press Club here, Langda Mina informed that the State’s first official futsal team, Arunachal Highlanders is all set up for the first-ever mixed-gender futsal league which set to kick-off on August 25.
She informed that the seven-day tournament which will go on till August 31 and will feature six teams – Meghalaya Thunders, Assam Titans, Mizo Falcons, Apunba Manipur, Nagaland Super 5 and Arunachal Highlanders.
“The champion team will receive Rs 5 lakh and the cash award for the runners-up team is Rs 2.5 lakh,” she said while informing that for the first time, player profiles will also be introduced thus allowing the players to be transferred from one team to the next.
She said that the mixed-gender teams are unique elements of the NEFL, where each team will have female players, and one of them will be on the pitch at all the time. This new approach of including a female player is a way to boost female participation in sports.
When questioned on the selection process of players for the team, she informed that they had a three-day trial run after which the current playing team has been selected. She added that their criteria for getting selected into the team are that the players should be above 17 years old and should have endurance and skills.
The players includes Byabang Agio, Giani Ramching Mara, Hage Takang (Goalkeeper), Karlo Bui, Romik Tapa, Taba Sama, and Langda Mina.
