ASEBSC face OILFC in Bordoloi Trophy final today

GUWAHATI: It's clash between two arch rivals. Defending champion Oil India Football Limited Club (OILFC) will face Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEBSC) in the final of 67th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Football Championship at the Judges' Field here tomorrow. The match will kick off at 5-30 in the evening.

It will be the ninth appearance for ASEBSC in the final of Bordoloi Trophy. OILFC already played final on seventh occasions.

Last time two teams face each other in the title clash was in 2019 where OILFC won the clash via tie break.

Both OILFC and ASEBSC were in separate group when the competition kicked off on March 11. On way to final both of them played four games each. OILFC kept their slate clean by winning all of their games but ASEBSC had managed to won three and their first game against Gauhati Town Club ended as draw.

OILFC are also ahead when it comes about converting opportunities. The side scored 12 goals in last four matches while ASEBSC's netted 9 in their previous four outings.

Talking to The Sentinel after the final preparation this morning the coach of OILFC Jitu Chetry admitted that his side had played good soccer in the meet. "We have improved our performance in every game. The way my boys played the semi final was superb. Hope my players would continue their good show in the final also," said the coach.

Commenting on his opponent in the final Jitu said," ASEBSC is always a good team and you never take them lightly in any condition. We know this would be the toughest game for us and we will try our best to play good soccer and defend the title."

Meanwhile ASEBSC will miss the service of its key player Manjit Rabha because of two yellow cards issue. Manjit was in good form and already scored five goals in the meet including a hat-trick.

Talking to The Sentinel Coach Ganesh Rai said, "Yes, we will miss the service of Manjit. But it's ok. This type of things is part of the game and we are ready for it."

Commenting on his team's possible performance in the final Rai said, "We have very young team this time. Hope my boys would be able to display spirited performance in the final tomorrow."
