MANGALDAI: Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) , Shillong emerged as the champion of the Mangaldai Sports Association (MSA) organized 41st edition of the Amba Medhi All India Invitational Football Tournament here today. In the high voltage final played at the jam packed Mangaldai stadium, ARC defeated former champion ASEB FC by 3-2.

ASEB struck the first blow in the 17th minute when striker Nicodim Narzary found the net in cross pass from Asish Langthasa from the right flank.

After conceding the goal the Shillong team started putting pressure in the opposition goal and in the 30th minute it got the equalizer through M. Nengneng. With the match locked 1-1 both the teams mounted pressure at the opposition goals through attacks and counter attack. In the 42nd minute L Robert took the Shillong team into the lead when L Robert chipped the ball into the net over the head of the charging ASEB goalkeeper at a through pass from M Nengneng. Till half-time Shillong team led 2-1. In the beginning of the second half the winners increased their lead when L Robert converted a spot kick into a goal after a handball foul by a player in the opposition defense inside the penalty box was spotted. The ASEB then reduced the margin to 3-2 in the 28th minute as Hitesh Deka netted a goal in a penalty kick after an opposition player was spotted with handling the ball in the similar fashion.

L Robert was adjudged as the player of the final to bag the win the Bidya Medhi memorial trophy while ASEB custodian and skipper bagged the Patiram Deka memorial best goalkeeper award.
