GUWAHATI: Assam registered a narrow 2-run victory over Himachal Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket in Mumbai on Wednesday. Invited to bat, Assam scored 231-4 in 20 overs. Captain Riyan Parag (72) and Sumit Ghadigaonkar (71) scored half centuries. Riyan took only 37 balls to score 72 with the help of five boundaries and the same number of over boundaries. Sumit’s 71 came in 43 balls and there were 11 hits (one of them six) to the fence. The third wicket partnership between them produced 120 runs and it played a crucial role in team’s victory.

In reply Himachal Pradesh, rode on two good knocks from opener Prashant Chopra (88) and Rishi Dhawan (72no), almost reached the target but fell short for just two runs as they ended their 20 overs quota putting 229-6 on the board. Mrinmoy Dutta bagged 3-41 and Akash Sengupta collected 2-39.

Assam, in group B, now placed at the second spot in eight teams collecting 16 points from six matches. Kerala are at the top spot with 24 points.
