GUWAHATI: Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEBSC) made a winning start in the 69th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship at the Nehru Stadium here on Sunday. The side, in the opening game of group ‘A’, beat Assam Police Blues 3-0.

The first half of the match was well contested but ASEBSC dominated in the second half and were also successful to score two goals at the dying stage of the match. The victory margin could be higher for power-men if they didn’t waste a series of opportunities in the second half.

ASEBSC took the lead through Tridev Boro just before the end of the first half. Jigyas Deka made it 2-0 for ASEBSC two minutes before the scheduled time. Deka nicely dribbled past opponent goalkeeper before putting the ball into the empty net. The final goal of the match came in the added time when Deijoraj Boro headed in a cross that came from the right wing.

Earlier the Guwahati leg of the meet was inaugurated by Nibedan Das Patowary, Director of Sports and Youth Welfare. The secretary of the Assam Sepak Takraw Association Bishnuram Nunisha, treasurer of Assam Football Association Hiren Gogoi, president and secretary of Gauhati Sports Association Pulak Goswami and Dhrubajyoti Kalita along with other officials of the association were also present in the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile in another match of the day, held at Mangaldoi, Elevenstar Club, Bongaigaon and Hills United FC (Group ‘B’) played to a 2-2 draw. One goal each from Seimin Thang Haokip and Johnte Ngaihte helped Elevenstar to take 2-0 in the match. However Hill United returned both the goals in the added time through Romarius Laban and Khuingbo Kaurintah.
