Bronze medalist in Tokyo Olympics Lovlina Borgohain named Best Sportsperson by ASJA

GUWAHATI: Bronze medalist in Tokyo Olympics Lovlina Borgohain was on Saturday adjudged the RG Baruah Best Sportsperson Award by the Assam Sports Journalists Association (ASJA) for the year 2021. Lovlina will receive the award at the Annual Award function in the city on January 11.

The annual awards were kept suspended over the past few years in view of various constraints. However, Govt of Assam and Oil India Ltd have come to the ASJA's help this time to reinstitute the awards so that sportspersons are encouraged and motivated.

The four categories and awardees:

RG Baruah Best Sportsperson of the Year Award: Lovlina Borgohain (Boxing).

Nripendra Narayan Singha Best Junior Sportspersons of the Year Award: Shivangi Sarma (Swimming) and Sidhanta Gogoi (Weightlifting).

Nurul Amin Best Team of the Year Award: Assam State Volleyball team.

Pulin Das Lifetime Achievement Award: Premadhar Sarma.
