GUWAHATI: Bud Cricket Club lifted the 6th All Assam Golap-Arati Hazarika and Sarat Kalita Cricket Tournament title defeating Gauhati Town club by 5 wickets in the final held at the Nehru stadium here today.
Chasing 194 runs to win, Bud Cricket Club reached the target in 31 overs losing 5 wickets. Sarupam Purkayastha played a crucial role in Bud Cricket club's victory in the final. He first picked up 3-45 and later contributed 40 runs with the bat. The performance also helped him to earn man of the match award.
Bud made a good start in their run chase as both the opener Jitu Ali and Erik Roy gave 100 plus runs partnership. Jitu played 57 balls to score 57 with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes. Erik narrowly missed a half century in the game as the batsman got out on 48 (50 balls, 4X6). Sarupam did the rest of the work to make Bud victorious in the game. Avoy Kumar Yadav, who bowled 7 overs in the match, bagged 3-39. Earlier elected to bat, Gauhati Town Club put 193-9 in 40 overs on the board. While Sumit Ghadigaukar (55, 64 balls, 4X3, 6X2) scored half century, Pradyun Saikia (43) and Gokul Sarma (34) also batted well.
The closing function was attended by the president and secretary of the City Cricket Coaching Centre Swapnanil Barua and Gautam Hazarika respectively, president of the Gauhati Sports Association Pulak Goswami and its secretary Dhrubajyoti Kalita and others. Champion Bud Cricket Club received a cash award of Rs one lakh and the runners up Gauhati Town Club collected a purse of Rs 50,000.
