GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today felicitated medal winners in the Women’s Boxing World Championships Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro at Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium at Sarusajai and presented cheques of Rs 20 lakh each to the boxers under State Sports policy.
Saying that the feat of both pugilists Lovlina Borgohain and Jamuna Boro at the international stage had brought laurels to the state and country, the Chief Minister urged them to vie for Olympic glory and strive for continued success at the world stage.
He also highlighted state government’s initiatives like the development of 500 playgrounds in the state under Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnyan Yojna, Tea Garden Football Competition, setting up of football and archery academies etc for ushering in a period of development in the sports sector. He also urged the parents and teachers to join hands with the government to create a pool of successful sportspersons from the state.
He also stressed the need to incorporate scientific training and improved infrastructure for the rapid development of sports culture in the state and said that state government was taking all necessary steps in that regard. This is stated in a release.
