Dangdufur Hill enters world map of Paragliding hot Spot

KOKRAJHAR: The Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyary has said that the Dangdufur Hill of Kokrajhar which falls under Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary, the famous home to world endangered species golden languor has entered the world map of paragliding hot spot after hosting the 1st Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship.

The 1st Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship under the aegis of the Tourism department of BTC got underway from Monday at Dangdufur Hills in Kokrajhar. As many as 70 gliders from across the country and abroad are taking part in the competition.

The International Paragliding Champion was flagged off by the Minister of Social Welfare and Soil Conservation Pramila Rani Brahma in presence of BTC Deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary.

The Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyary who is also the in-charge of Tourism said it was the 1st mega paragliding event in the region where participants from different countries have enrolled along with the participants from across India. He said the Dangdufur Hilltop near Kokrajhar which is situated in the Chakrasilla Wildlife sanctuary is very suitable for paragliding in the Northeastern region. He said there were no facilities although there are a lot of talents in the adventure sports in the locality. The tourism department of BTC took the initiative to explore the local talents and sent the interested youths to Sikkim for paragliding training, he said adding that the council could have created master gliders for paragliding. He also said for the development of adventure and tourism sports, the council had taken up various measures.

Borgoyary said the department has been working to take important tourist spots of BTC in the map of the tourist destination of the world and looking forward to the development of National Parks. He said the hosting of international paragliding accuracy championship was also part of their mission to focus tourist spots of BTC to the visitors of the world.

The council has decided to felicitate alternative livelihoods to the local people and unemployed youths through tourism sports and adventure sports in Dangdufur, he said adding that hosting of Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship at Dangdufur was the ever biggest competition in the region where paragliders of nine countries are participating.

Minister Pramila Rani Brahma while talking to reporters said the hosting of international paragliding accuracy championship by the Tourism department of BTC was very significant as the backward place like the Dangdufur area has been connected with the world community and the local culture and traditions have also found its exposure.

Brahma said the adventure sports like paragliding will provide economic sustainability to the people in the region besides giving livelihood to unemployed youths.
