GUWAHATI: LaLiga, the premier Spanish football league, has witnessed three times growth in digital users in Assam, said Jose Antonio Cachaza, Managing Director of LaLiga India.

He was on a visit to Guwahati as part of the fifth anniversary celebration of LaLiga India's founding date and during this trip he also interacted with local media for a while.

According to Jose, the data from LaLiga digital presence has revealed that the number of users engaging with LaLiga content in different social media has grown three times within the last one year.

" The digital audience growth in the North East India, especially in the Assam market, is a reflection of the appetite the cluster has for football and the focused initiatives LaLiga has taken in India to strengthen the connection with existing fans and expand the fan base," said Cachaza.

He also added, "Coming into this country we had already identified the markets that have significant football followers and Assam has been one of them. But the depth of the bond we have seen people from this region have with the sports has surpassed our expectations. We are constantly working towards improving our offering and the fan experience to keep our new and potential fans engaged and excited. In the coming season, LaLiga fans in India can expect bigger and better initiatives from us."

It may be mentioned here that apart from growing the fan base, LaLiga have also engaged themselves in grassroots programmes and built 'strong' relations with leading Indian companies. They are also having discussions to set up their special initiative – LaLiga Football School in Guwahati.

Cachaza admitted: "There have been conversations between local schools here in Guwahati and our office in New Delhi and it is in an advanced stage. But I'm not sure when it can happen."

LaLiga Football Schools have been set up to train the students and teach them to play the Spanish way. Already they have started centers in different cities of India.

The media briefing was also attended by Aakriti Vohra, India delegate of LaLiga Global Network.
