GUWAHATI: A captain’s knock from Gokul Sharma and good support from two promising batsmen Saahil Jain (88) and Riyan Parag (60) guided Assam to the driver’s seat against Chattishgarh in the Ranji Trophy tie at the ACA stadium, Barsapara here today. Host declared their first innings 464-9 and Chhatishgarh were 25-1 at stumps on day III.

The highlight of the day’s play was the century from Gokul Sarma and a good responsible knock by Saahil Jain who is playing third first class games of his career.

Assam today started from their overnight score 209-3 and two not out batsmen Riyan and Gokul added 70 runs this morning before Riyan lost his wicket. The batsman scored with good pace today and reached his fourth first class fifty before got out on 60. There were 10 boundaries and one six in his 87 balls innings.

Riyan’s departure brought in Saahil and the batsman played a terrific knock at the middle. Saahil gave good support to Gokul and the duo added 121 runs on the fifth wicket which put the host on driver’s seat. Captain Gokul today scored his 7th first class century playing a very responsible knock. The batsman played 350 balls to score 129 and there were 14 hits to the fence.

Saahil, looked very determined in the middle, also reached close to hit a ton but missed it narrowly as the batsman got out on 88 (154 balls, 4X10, 6X1).

Chattishgarh, started their second innings with 146 runs deficit, scored 25-1 in the second innings and were trailed by 121 runs when the match came to an end.
