GUWAHATI, Jan 8: Veteran batter Gokul Sharma will lead Assam in their next Ranji Trophy game against Mumbai after captain Kunal Saikia ruled out from this match due to injury. The wicket-keeper batter suffered a hamstring injury in the last game against Maharashtra and was forced to retire hurt. He is yet to recover fully and selectors decided to give the responsibility of captainship to Gokul.

Assam will face Mumbai in their next game in the competition. Mumbai already arrived in the city and started their preparation at the Amingaon Cricket ground where the match is scheduled to begin on January 10. The game was earlier supposed to be held at the Nehru Stadium but later shifted it to the Amingaon Cricket ground.
