Guwahati Sports Association (GSA), Nowgong Sports Association (NSA) unhappy over AFA on selection procedure

GUWAHATI: Two affiliated units of the Assam Football Association (AFA) today expressed their unhappiness over the selection procedure of the team that will play the 2nd Division I-League Football. They also requested the AFA to make the selection procedure transparent to enable only the deserving clubs to represent Assam in the League.

The two affiliated units that expressed unhappiness over the selection process are Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) and Nowgong Sports Association (NSA). In separate letters to the AFA, they mentioned their concern over the selection procedure. They requested the AFA to disclose the parameters for team selection for the qualifying round.

Talking to The Sentinel, Guwahati Sports Association secretary Dhruba Jyoti Kalita said, "It is unfortunate that the AFA is going to organize the tournament and we have not received any information on it. We can't support it. We have learnt that only two teams of the state will participate on a home-and-away basis, and the winner will represent the state in the forthcoming 2nd Division I League. The AFA chalked out its plans by keeping district units in the dark."

Kalita added: "We feel deeply humiliated as there are 36 clubs under Guwahati Sports Association, and only a few of them are big names. Still, the Assam Football Association has not sent any detailed information regarding the selection process in due time, and many aspiring clubs have lost the opportunity to participate in the qualifying competition."

Kalita requested the Assam Football Association to take necessary steps to make the selection procedure transparent so that the deserving clubs from Assam are not deprived.

In its letter, Nowgong Sports Association also wrote in similar ways. They requested the AFA to disclose the parameters for selection of the team for the 2nd Division I League qualifying competition.
