LAKHIMPUR:The Lakhimpur District Masters’ Athletics meet was held successfully with tw-day long programme on October 29 and 30. The event was organized at the playground of Konwar Gaon Yuva Sangha, wherein more than 200 veteran athletes of district, from 35 years to 93 years participated. The tournament was inaugurated by District Sports Officer Sami Saikia, while the playground was ceremonially inaugurated by prominent academician of the State Bali Narayan Phukan, the winner of the ‘Pioneer of Higher Education Award-2022’ from the Government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The best athletes of the tournament were honoured with special awards. This year Tankeswar Dutta Memorial Best Athlete (Man) Award was bagged by Lalit Neog while Dr. Jogada Phukan Memorial Best Athlete (Women) Award was grabbed by Premada Borgohain. On the other hand, 93-year old athlete Haladhar Duwarah won the Seniormost Man Athlete Award and Best National Level Athlete Award. The selected athletes of the tournament will have the chance to participate in the State Level Masters’ Athletics Tournament to be held from November 4 in Jorhat.
