Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh reach quarters of Junior Women National Football Championship

GUWAHATI: The quarter-final line up for the Junior Women National Football Championship completed today. Among the eight quarter finalists two are from North East and they are Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh. The other teams are Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Haryana, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Kerala.

Four quarter finals of the competition will be held at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium in the city on June 29 and June 30 respectively. Manipur will take on Bihar in the first game (9 AM) on June 29 and later Chhattisgarh will face Arunachal Pradesh (3PM) on the same day. In the other two clashes on June 30 Haryana will face West Bengal (9 AM) and Kerala to play against Dadra and Nagar Haveli (3 PM).

Meanwhile ten group league matches were held in different venues on Sunday. Manipur continued their good form and thrashed Jharkhand 11-0 at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium. Kimte Langel scored four times in the game which also elevated her to third place jointly with West Bengal's Sonali Soren and Shruti Kumari of Bihar in the highest goal scorer list. The trio scored nine goals each in the tournament. Manipur, last time runners up, already scored 42 goals in their last three matches and yet to concede a single one.

Meanwhile West Bengal, who also didn't concede a goal in the tournament, registered the biggest victory of the day when they thrashed Jammu and Kashmir 13-0 at Dimakuchi. Sonali Soren scored five goals in the match.

Result of other matches: Kerala bt Ladakh 8-1 (Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium), Maharashtra bt Odisha 3-0 (SAI Sports Complex), Tamil Nadu bt Rajasthan 3-0 (Dimakuchi), Dadra and Nagar Haveli bt Chandigarh 4-0 (LNIPE). Bihar bt Madhya Pradesh 2-0 (LNIPE), Delhi bt Meghalaya 7-0 (SAI Sports Complex) and Punjab vs Nagaland 1-1 (Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium).
