GUWAHATI: Assam Rock and Sport Climbing Association celebrated the 9th anniversary of the first successful summit of Assamese youth on Mount Everest as Axom Everest Day. A function was organized at the Gauhati Press Club this afternoon which was attended by several Everesters and renowned mountaineers of the State.

May 18 is the special day for mountaineers in Assam. In 2013, Tarun Saikia became the first person from the State to conquer the world's highest peak Mount Everest on this particular day. Later several other mountaineers from Assam successfully attempted and climbed atop the mighty peak. Today's function was organized to mark and keep that historic achievement alive in the mind of people of Assam

Tarun along with four others Eversters Manish Deka, Naba Kumar Phukan, Khorsing Teron and Henry David Teron were present in the function and they were also felicitated. Later Tarun and others shared their experience with the local media.
