GUWAHATI: Assam Government will renovate the Nehru Stadium with all state of the art facilities.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing the news during his speech in the inaugural function of Centre of Excellence for Badminton said, “Assam Government is working to uplift the sports scenario in the State. Several new infrastructures are coming up at various places and at the same time existing infrastructure are also being upgraded. Nehru Stadium will also get a new look in the coming days.”
The cost of the renovation of the Nehru Stadium will be around Rs 500 cr and after the completion of work its crowd capacity will be increased to 50,000.
It may be mentioned here that Assam has planned to host National Games once again either in 2025 or 2027. This renovation work is the part of the preparation of the Games
Meanwhile Sarma today laid the foundation stone of a new stadium with a capacity of 20,000 at Amingaon. The total construction cost of the Stadium will be around Rs 302 cr and it will have facilities like players and coaches hostel, cricket pitches, flood light and others. The new stadium is expected to be ready within two years.
