GUWAHATI: Northeast United FC are deeply disturbed by the incident of racism, Hooliganism and violence directed towards some of their soccer fans during the Durand Cup semi-final match against East Bengal in Kolkata on Tuesday.

The club in a statement said, “Racism has no place in football or in any aspect of life and we condemn such behaviour.”

The statement also said, “Our fans are an integral part of our team and we stand united against any form of discrimination. We have already brought this matter to the attention of the tournament officials and the local officials.

It may be mentioned here that students from the Northeast allegedly faced racial slurs and had stones during the match on Tuesday. They were later escorted out by the Army and the Police. East Bengal won the semi-final through tie break after the game ended 2-2 draw.
