GUWAHATI: Odisha dominated Day I of Ranji trophy tie against Assam which got underway at Cuttack on Monday. Invited to bat, Odisha scored 215-3 at stumps in their first innings. Three of their batsmen scored half centuries.

Assam included four paces in the first XI but it didn’t work as the openers Shantanu Mishra and Anurag Sarangi added 96 runs on the first wicket and put the team in solid position.

Pacer Ranjeet Mali gave the first breakthrough removing Anurag and at the same score Odisha lost their second wicket in the form of Subhransu (0). But host team recovered the damage nicely and finished the day staying at comfort zone.

Anurag took 112 balls to score 58 runs with the help of 10 boundaries and one six. His opening partner Shantanu Mishra put 66 runs on the board and there were 10 hits to the fence. Govinda Poddar remained not out on 54 (4X8) and Biplab Samantary (32 no) giving him accompany.

Among the bowlers of Assam Ranjeet Mali took two wickets for 51 and Pritam Das bagged the other wicket.
