GUWAHATI: Oil India Limited Football Club (OILFC) of Duliajan lifted 69th Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship title defeating United Chirangduar FC 3-1 in the final held at the Nehru Stadium here today.
It was the fifth occasion when OILFC clinched the Bordoloi Trophy Football Championship title. Earlier they won the trophy in 1990, 2008, 2012 and 2019.
The match was well contested even though the crowd in the gallery was not so attractive. OILFC, undoubtedly one of the best teams in the state, played beautiful soccer for most of the match. United Chirangduar FC also looked very impressive in the final and gave good fight to Duliajan outfit
Chirangduar FC, who stunned ASEBSC in the semi final, today surprised everyone when they took the lead in the very first minute of the game through Ajanta Rabha who put the ball into the net collecting a pass from Lalhminglu. Next ten minutes of the match were controlled by United Chirangduar and they put huge pressure on the OILFC defence. However as the match progressed Duliajan outfit started to come back into the game. They also scored two goals in the first half but could easily increase the margin unless wasted a few opportunities.
OILFC scored the equalizer in the 13 minute when Tupu Brahma headed in a free kick that was taken by Mandila Rongmei. 15 minutes later Milan Basumatary, who earlier missed an easy opportunity, put OILFC ahead. Akrang Narzary sent an accurate pass to Milan Basumatary who didn’t miss this time to beat the opponent’s goalkeeper. The final goal of OILFC came in the 75th minute. This time Rahul Das’s nice centre headed into the goal by Akrang Narzary. Akrang could also score another goal in the match unless he wasted a penalty, awarded to OILFC, at the dying stage of the game.
The award ceremony was attended by Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli, president of the All India Football Federation Kalyan Chaubey along with GSA officials and others. Champion OILFC team received a cash award of Rs two lakh and the runners up United Chirangduar were richer by Rs one lakh. Akrang Narzary of OILFC adjudged the player of the tournament by the Assam Sports Journalists Association. He received the trophy from two veteran journalists Balendra Mohan Chakravarty and Pabitra Gogoi respectively. There was another best player award in the name of Kanak Bordoloi which was handed over to Milan Basumatary by senior journalist Pranoy Bordoloi. The best goalkeeper trophy of the meet was collected by Abinash Mech of OILFC.
