GUWAHATI: Rode on an unbeaten century from opener Pallab Das Assam thrashed Sikkim by 7 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Cricket Tournament match in Dehradun today. Chasing 177 runs to win Assam reached the target in 36.4 overs losing three wickets. Earlier a nice spell from Roshan Alam (5-33) helped the winner to bowl out Sikkim 176 runs.

Although the target was not so big but Assam struggled during the early stage of their innings as inform opener Sarupam Purkayastha (0) returned into the pavilion without opening his account. Sibsankar Roy (11) and Gokul Sharma (6) also failed to put big total on the board. However Pallab, who opened the innings with Sarupam, played a superb knock at the other end and remained not out when the match came to an end. He took 116 balls to score 118 (no) with the help of 12 boundaries and five sixes. Hrishikesh Tamuli (33no) was giving him accompany when the mach came to an end.

Earlier Sikkim won the toss and elected to bat first. Although they were once 10-2 but Ashish Thapa (48) and Yashpal (63) played well in the match and added 113 runs on the third wicket and stitched the damage nicely. But once the partnership was broken Assam came back strongly and took Sikkim’s remaining seven wickets giving away only 52 runs. Roshan Alam, the only bowler from Assam who completed full 10 overs in the match, picked up 5-33.
