GUWAHATI: An all-round performance from Assam XI helped the side to earn first innings lead against Surjo Torun club in the Friendship Series match which ended as a draw at the ACA stadium, Barsapara today. The highlight of the match was an unbeaten century from middle order batsman Sarupam Purkayastha and two good spells from pacers Arup Das and Pritam Das.
Assam XI started this morning from their overnight score 214-6 and declared their first innings 325-7. Sarupam, who remained not out 55 yesterday, today scored the first century of the season. The batsman remained not out on 120 (240 balls, 4X 16, 6X1) when the captain Sibsankar declared the innings. In the lower order Jitumoni Kalita (36) gave good support to Sarupam and the duo added 113 runs on the seventh wickets.
Later two nice spells and Pritam Das restricted Bangladesh’s outfit first innings to 162. Both the bowlers shared three wickets each giving away 20 and 41 runs respectively. Abu and Jitumoni picked up two wickets each. Among the batsmen of Surjo Torun Club Mohai Minul Khan (53) fought lone battle for his side.
