Seminar on sports science awareness held, at the NEDFI Convention Centre

The Lovlina Borgohain, in collaboration with the State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, organised a seminar today to bring awareness about the benefits of sports science to the state athletes. The event was held at the NEDFI Convention Centre.

Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain recently started the foundation with the aim of working for the betterment of athletes at the grassroots level. Today’s seminar, “Behind the Game: Developing Interdisciplinary Services for Maximising Performance and Wellbeing,” was organised by her foundation to introduce the state athletes to the various areas of sports science, which are now considered an essential part of grooming an athlete.

The seminar was inaugurated by Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, and the inaugural session was also attended by DGP of Assam GP Singh, Lovlina Borgohain, Member Secretary for the State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare Gitartha Goswami and Director of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department Prodip Timung.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Sports Minister Garlosa today praised Lovlina for her initiative to work for the athletes of the state. Garlosa said, “It’s nice to see that although Lovlina is now a star, she has still come forward to help the young athletes of Assam. I appreciate her initiative and hope this will help us to produce more international-level athletes in the coming days.”

Gitartha Goswami too felt that Lovlina had taken good steps for the young athletes of the state, and in the coming days they would greatly benefit.

Sharing the reason behind the start of the foundation, Lovlina said, “I want to help the young talents of the state so that they can reach their goals. We have various plans, and we will implement those plans step by step.”

Several sports science specialists and experts, including Dr. Mayur Das (Associate Professor, College of Physiotherapy and Medical Science), Amey Kolekar (Head of Sports Science, Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy), Dr. Sherin Gogoi (Dope Control Officer, NADA), Dr. Nilakshi Deka, Dr. Mukesh Agarwala, and Dr. Prakritish Bora, took part in today’s seminar. All the specialists shared their views on various areas like the basic physiotherapy protocol for acute sports injuries and rehabilitation, sports psychology, the necessity to keep the players away from monotonous training, etc.
