GUWAHATI: Several Sports Associations had mourned the death of former international umpire Nilay Dutta who passed away at Croog in Karnataka today.
The president of the Assam Cricket Association Romen Dutta and secretary Devajit Saikia deeply mourned the sudden demise of former international umpire. As a mark of respect to the departed soul the Assam Cricket Association today stopped all the sports activities and the official flag of the association would also be flown at half-mast for three days starting from today.
It may be mentioned here that Dutta was hold the distinction of being an International Cricket Umpire, having officiated as a Field Umpire in an ODI between India and Sri Lanka in 1990, and as a TV Umpire in another ODI.
The president and the secretary of the Assam Olympic Association Sarbananda Sonowal and Lakhya Konwar described the death as an irreparable loss to society.
The secretary of the Gauhati Sports Association Dhrubajyoti Kalita in a condolence message wrote: Dutta played a crucial role to make Gauhati Sports Association as one of the pioneer institute in the State.
Among other mourned the death of Dutta included president and chief coach of Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre Rajib Prakash Baruah and Nabab Ali, All Assam Tennis Association, secretary of the Assam Sepak Takraw Association Bishnuram Nunisa, president and secretary of the Veteran Cricket Association of Assam Naba Konwar and Nasir Gul Khan respectively.
