CM attends final match of Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup football tournament : Salbagan FC emerge champs

TANGLA: “Tournaments play an important role in identifying and promoting talented sportspersons and Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup’s contribution in this regard is highly commendable.

This championship is not only a deep tribute to the brave martyrs but also a promising platform that generates favourable environment for encouraging sports in Assam”, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said while taking part at the prize distribution ceremony after the final match of the 19th Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup held at Khoirabari Stadium in Udalguri district today. This All Assam Invitational Football Tournament was organized by ABSU Khoirabari Regional Committee in association with Khoirabari Regional Sports Association.

Stating that the Government of Assam has taken up several initiatives to boost sports infrastructure in the State, he said that fund for the improvement of five hundred playgrounds has already been allocated in the budget. He further informed that the State Government has financially awarded ace athlete Hima Das and archer Hriday Hazarika under the State Sports Policy and taken steps for construction of several sports stadiums.

Informing that the State Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 50 lakh for setting up an advanced Archery Academy at Khoirabari, the Chief Minister also assured to look into the appeal made by local public representatives and people of the areas for construction of a stadium at Khoirabari.

Highly appreciating the achievements of Pramila Daimary, who hails from Khoirbari and has made a mark in the international sports arena, Sonowal said that success of sportspersons like Bhagyawati Kachari, Hima Das, Ankushita Bodo portend a promising future for sports in the State.

Further saying that Assam has huge potential in the field of culture and sports, he pointed out the nomination of Rima Das’ Village Rockstars as positive news for the State. He also urged parents and teachers to promote the culture of sports amongst the young generation from their childhood. Moreover, he said that the BJP led State Government during its tenure has been taking up committed steps for ensuring a dignified life for the people and there is no need for any community to panic in the State.

The Chief Minister presented 19th Bodoland Martyrs Gold Cup to the champion Salbagan FC and runners’ up the trophy to Bodoland FC. He also awarded the best player of the final match Phulong Daimary on the occasion. Salbagan FC defeated Bodoland FC by 2-0 in the final match.

Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management Bhabesh Kalita, MP from Mangaldai constituency Ramen Deka, MLAs Kamali Basumatary and Moneswar Bodo and host of the dignitaries were also present in the prize distribution ceremony. This is stated in a release.
