ITANAGAR: Sports & Youth Minister Mama Natung today felicitated the state Wushu team on winning 8 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals in the 30th National Wushu championship held from December 4 to 10 at Bhopal. Arunachal Pradesh Wushu team also clinched runners-up trophy in Taolu section.

Expressing his contentment, Natung appreciated the players for bringing laurels and recognition to the state. He said the state government and Sports department in particular is committed to help the players and to build the state as one of the sporting hubs in the entire country.

While encouraging the players to be focused and only choose the field of expertise, he also appealed to them to create awareness on the 'Drug Choro aur Khel Mein Joro' campaign.

"Consumption of drugs will yield nothing but cause problems to the individual as well as the family. Therefore, I appeal to the youths to indulge in sports & games to remain healthy and occupied," he added.

Natung also stressed that the state government is in line to streamline all the sports & games in the state through discussions and meeting with the associations to make sure the state gets a medal in the coming 2024 or 2028 Olympic games.

When questioned on any future chances of affiliating Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) under sports department, Natung said, though MMA is presently not affiliated under the department, it will definitely recognize the combat game once approved by the central government.

Further, Natung also appealed to the sports association of the state of any sporting discipline to officially submit the names of participants in the sports Directorate prior to participating in any events out of the state.

"Every single detail should be provided officially, so that every individual or group of any sports discipline is recorded for further recognition," he said.

Among others, the president of All Arunachal Wushu Association (AAWA) Toko Teki and Sports Director Tadar Apa were also present on the day.

Nyeman Wangsu won 3 gold medals in Changquan, Daoshu & Gunshu event, Mepung Lamgu won 2 goldmedals in Taijijian & Taijiquan , Dani Nuri won 2 gold medals in Chen-Tai Chi Jian & Chen-Taijiquan, Mercy Ngaimong 1 gold & 1 silver in Jianshu & Giangshu, Realu Boo win 1 silver & 1 bronze in Taijiquan & Taijijian event and Soni Beyong won silver medal in Cha-Quan event.
