GUWAHATI: Tamulpur will host the fourth edition of the Asian Kho Kho Championship from March 20. The president of the Assam Kho Kho Association Rajib Prakash Baruah, who is also the president of the North East Zone Kho Kho Federation, in a conversation with The Sentinel shared details on the preparation of the championships and other related issues. Here is the excerpts

The Sentinel (TS): Share the preparation of the Asian kho Kho Championships.

Baruah: We are ready for the show. Teams have already started to arrive and the infrastructure required for this event is ready. We are optimistic that participating teams will be highly satisfied with the facilities that we are going to provide them during the competition and they will return with a very nice memory.

(TS): Perhaps you are required to develop temporary infrastructure for the Games at Tamulpur.

Baruah: Yes. Once we decided to organize the event the chairman of the Assam Kho Kho Association and CEM of BTC Pramod Boro instructed us to make everything perfect so that the visitors didn’t face any kind of trouble during the competition. We have made a beautiful makeshift indoor arena at Tamulpur and laid down four courts which will be used during the tournament. The arena included a players changing room, food court and VIP room along with other facilities. The space inside the arena is enough to hold more than 10,000 spectators during the match.

(TS): Players need to travel a lot as you have made their accommodation in Guwahati...

Baruah: We have arranged separate transport facilities to the players and officials and everything is done in consultation with the Kho Kho Federation of India. The officials of the Federation recently visited the venue and they were highly impressed with the preparation.

(TS): Share the preparation of Team India.

Baruah: This time we have arranged the selection trial for the Indian team in Guwahati where nearly 70 players participated in the camp and the team will announce on Sunday.

(TS): Any chance to see state players in the national team !

Baruah: We have a couple of good players who are attending the camp and they have a very good chance to come into the main team.
