GUWAHATI: Veteran sportsperson and ace footballer Prafulla Borkotoky of Jorhat passed away at the Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) yesterday. He was 83. He had tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment, initially at a private nursing home in Dibrugarh and later at JMCH where he breathed his last. He left behind his wife, two sons and daughters-in-law, a daughter besides a host of relatives and well-wishers. Born at Jorhat in 1938, Borkotoky played for Jorhat's famous Thengal Sports Club besides representing Gauhati University and Jorhat district in various tournaments. A retired Deputy Director of ONGC's Chinamora division in Jorhat, Prafulla Borkotoky was honoured by the State Government for his contribution towards the development of football and other sporting activities.
