GUWAHATI: The curtain raiser and trophy unveiling ceremony for SLAC Pride Cup T20 Cricket and GSA Youth and Kids League held at the Gauhati Town Club auditorium today. Both the tournaments will be introduced this season by the Guwahati Sports Association.
The glittering event was attended by Gitartha Goswami, Member Secretary of the State Level Advisory Committee for Student and Youth Welfare along with several key officials of the Guwahati Sports Association and NorthEast United FC.
Pride Cup will be a Cricket Championship where top eight teams of the city will take part. The competition will kick off at the Amingaon Cricket ground from Saturday.
On the other hand Guwahati Sports Association decided to start a Youth and Kids Football League from this season with an aim to promote soccer at the grassroot level.
Addressing the gathering the secretary of the Guwahati Sports Association Devajit Saikia shared information on the newly introduced Youth and Kids Football League. Saikia said, “124 teams will participate in the forthcoming Youth and Kids Football League in six age groups: U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17. Nearly 1200 players will be seen in action in the first edition of the meet.”
He also added, “The competition will start on Saturday at the Judges Field. Nehru Stadium will also be the second venue of the meet which will be held on weekends and holidays only. The final is slated for December 31.”
NEUFC will provide all the technical supports in the league.
The event was also attended by head coach of NEUFC Juan Pedro Benali, president of Guwahati Sports Association Preseh Chandra Das, chairman of GMDA Narayan Deka, joint secretary of ACA Rajinder Singh and NEUFC’s head of Youth Development Naushad Moosa.
