Imphal: A 12-year-old boy, Issac Paulallungmuan Vaiphei, from Kangvai village of Manipur’s Churachandpur district is all prepared to appear in the upcoming Class 10 or High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations to be held from February 17th, 2020.

For the first time in history, young Issac has been given permission to appear in the class 10 boards by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM). The BOSEM under ‘special case’ has allowed Isaac to register his name with his actual date of birth for the upcoming board exams.

A student of Mount Olive School till class 8, Issac is the eldest of his five siblings. Isaac's father, Genkholien Vaiphei had submitted an application last year seeking permission from the education department to allow his son to write the matriculation exam. Following this, Issac had to go through psychology test conducted by the Department of Clinical Psychology RIMS Imphal. As per the test results, Isaac's mental age was found to be 17 years 5 months. His intelligence quotient (IQ) is 141 which is of very superior intellectual and development functioning.

Genkholien said that initially they were asked to change the age of the boy to 15 so as to comply with the prescribed rules of the ideal age in which a candidate intends to appear for the said examination. But later considering his “mental age and superior IQ (Intelligent Quotient) level”, he was granted permission.

Isaac, who loves to become a civil servant, has been securing top positions in all the previous examinations at the Mt Olive School, Kangvai. He also has a fascination with reading advanced-level books.
